Online scams abound - are you safe?

$8.9 million lost to scams in the last quarter! That was the headline on the news earlier this week (https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/130666720/89-million-lost-to-scams-in-three-months-the-highest-figure-since-records-began). Online scams have been around for a long time now, but these figures remind us that this is still a current issue. Which begs the question – how safe are you from online scams? Do you or your staff know how to spot fraudulent email or website?

Some are easy to spot – poor spelling and grammar, poor or broken English, strange formatting. But others can look legitimate, even using logos and wording from the website they are trying to impersonate. Clicking on the wrong link could see you handing over your personal information, online banking details, or worse, could compromise parts of your network with a ransomware attack as happened to Mercury IT (https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/nz-privacy-commissioner/). Recovering from even the smallest of these scams can be costly and time consuming.

Raspberry IT can help. Within a few minutes we can help you to identify if an email is a scam, so you can keep working with peace of mind.

Think you might have already been the target of a scam? We can scan your systems for malware and security breaches and help you to change any passwords that may have been compromised.

Need help to recover from a ransomware attack? We can rebuild your system from scratch and get you up and running again. Or if you are missing business critical data, we can send your system to the data recovery experts.
